MY HOME IN THE DESERT

‘Home in the Desert’ is a body of work that puts a spotlight on the desert environment. More specifically, the American Southwest desert of Arizona where Shachi has been residing for the last 20 years. She looks at the idea of home from the perspective of humans and the animals, plants and creatures that inhabit the desert. The unique beauty of the dry thorny desert plants and sand colored animals, juxtaposed against the bright flashes of color of the hummingbird and the juicy brightness of the citrus plants shows that it is a land of contrast and surprise. She takes inspiration from her urban landscape and how humans and nature have found a way to co-exist in this harsh but unique environment.
